When You Were Me is a gay themed novel by Robert Rodi. It tells the story of a middle age man, Jack Ackerly, who regrets how his life turns out to be.. although he is filthy rich. His boyfriend left him, and he finds himself living a life not fulfilled. He longs to be young. He wants the energy of a young man. He wants fun in his life. He wants sex.

Corey Szaslo is a young man, who has the energy, fun and plenty of sex in his life. What he does not have is financial security. When his good friend moves into a new expensive place, Corey begins to question where he is heading.. He owns nothing but a rented flat, and a bicycle, which is stolen eventually.

So, when they meet, one thing leads to another, they decide to switch.

I had always wanted to read Robert Rodi's work. With interesting titles such as Closet Case and Kept Boy, I am curious if his writing is as entertaining as his contribution to the gay themed film, The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. But the only book I can find is this When You Were Mine.

I couldn't help but to wonder as I read this gay book, if Robert's work is done in such a way where it is hoping for another film production. It makes it less natural in story-telling wise for a novel.

I want to say that I love the book. It was great. But I can't. I don't hate the book. But I don't buy the storyline. Imagine a 53 year old man who changes body with a 26 year old hunk, and all Jack did was staying away from clubs and more.. where the hook-ups are. If I were someone whining about the lack of sex life, and somehow, by miracle, I got myself a 26 year old hot body, I would be jamming the body all night long... And I would not go back to my old ex, who is busy dating younger guys... Sure I would have the feeling for my ex, if he was portrayed as a nice guy. But Harry was not. He was a slut. So, why did Harry win in the end?

I don't buy it.

So, my curiousity of the work quality of Closet Case and Kept Boy is gone.

When You Were Me is okay, but not great.

Oh, I have always wanted this.. a guy who sings about some boys kissed him, some boys hugged him... Yeah, I am talking about a male version of Material Girl, except that the chorus part remains intact, with the guy still singing about him being a Material Girl. Sigh.. So gay, and yet, not gay enough.

I just can't have enough of Yehonathan. So, here the Israel gay artist again, with another passionate gay music video.

Love it. I'm gonna learn me some Hebrew now.

Watch this sexy gay music video, and cream. Cream, baby, cream. :) If you want more information on this Israel gay hunk artist, Yehonathan, head to his site. I cannot get the lyrics, but the song is catchy.

Lately I bumped into quite a number of good gay videos on Youtube. You just gotta love Youtube. I don't really have much information on these artists - but let me share this one - Eto. His song and video are so gay, although the song title is Bicurious, which is a good song to dance to. Interestingly, although it is titled Bicurious, the video is so gay themed.

Bicurious means a straight guy who is curious about gay sex, and I assume, wants to try out gay sex. This gay track is from Eto's Be Bicurious Tonight. More information about Eto can be found in his myspace.

Dog Tags is a gay film about a straight man, Nate (Paul Preiss), who joins the marines, and upon return, wants to impress his father, whom he has never met. But when he returns, he finds his girlfriend in bed with another man. While he finds life testy, he finds comfort in the companion of a gay young man, Andy (Bart Fletcher), who he almost ends up filming naked scenes with.

This movie caught my attention once the sex party started at the beginning of the movie, and then, basically, I was curious to see how far Nate and Andy would go. And I was not disappointed. I was hooked on their story.

However, that said, I was disappointed with the lead actors' naked time with one another.. which was like zero. We were treated to two scenes of hetero banging, and one gay (Andy's friend), but zero intimate time between Andy and Nate, other than kissing and cuddling.

Duh...

Still, I like this film.

Here's a youtube video that I had come across that exposed me to Johnny Dangerous, a gay rapper who were made famous by his appearance on Logo. I cannot find the lyrics to this gay song, but I still want to share this gay song and gay MV. So, here it goes.

It has been a wish of mine to find a male version of It's Raining Men, other than RuPaul's version. And thanks to the Toppers who held a concert in Amsterdam in 2008, there is this live version, and you just have to see it to see how gay it is. Hunks alert.. and a lot of body appreciation went on. Damn I am jealous...

Hi - Hi! We're your Weather Girls - Ah-huh -
And have we got news for you - You better listen!
Get ready, all you lonely girls
and leave those umbrellas at home. - Alright! -

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Ame---------nnnn!

I feel stormy weather / Moving in about to begin
Hear the thunder / Don't you lose your head
Rip off the roof and stay in bed

God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
It's Raining Men! Yeah!

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.

It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men!

Okay, so the lyrics is not all that gay... but hey, it is still a good gay mtv. :D

In 2004, Yoko Ono remade an earlier track Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him from the album Double Fantasy (1980) to Every Man Has A Man Who Loves Him / Every Woman Has A Woman Who Loves Her to support gay marriages. It shot to No.1 on Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart. Yeah for Yoko, and yes to gay marriages.

Every man has a man who loves him,
Rain or shine or life or death.

If he finds him in this lifetime,
He will know when he looks into his eyes.

Why do I roam when I know you're the one?
Why do I run when I feel like holding you?

Every woman has a woman who loves her.

If she finds her in this life time,
She will know when she presses her ears to her breasts.

Why do I roam when I know you're the one?
Why do I run when I feel like holding you?

Every man has a man who loves him,
Every woman has a woman who loves her.

Why do I roam when I know you're the one?
Why do I run when I feel like holding you?

Liza Minelli had done it. Marc Almind had done it. And I found another version of What Makes A Man A Man by George Daniel Long. It's a gay song crying for acceptance. Sigh... I am sharing both versions by the guys here...

Marc Almond's version -

George Daniel Long's version -

My mum and I we live alone
A great apartment is our home
In fairhome towers
I have to keep me company
Two dogs, a cat, a parakeet
Some plants and flowers
I help my mother with the chores
I wash, she dries, I do the floors
We work together
I shop and cook and sew a bit
Though mum does too I must admit
I do it better
At night I work in a strange bar
Impersonating every star
I'm quite deceiving
The customers come in with doubt
And wonder what I'm all about
But leave believing
I do a very special show
Where I am nude from head to toe
After stripteasing
Each night the men look so surprised
I change my sex before their eyes
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man

At 3 o'clock or so I meet
With friends to have a bite to eat
And conversation
We love to empty out our hearts
With every subject from the arts
To liberation
We love to pull apart someone
And spread some gossip just for fun
Or start a rumour
We let our hair down, so to speak
And mock ourselves with tongue-in-cheek
And inside humour
So many times we have to pay
For having fun and being gay
It's not amusing
There's always those that spoil our games
By finding fault and calling names
Always accusing
They draw attention to themselves
At the expense of someone else
It's so confusing
Yet they make fun of how I talk
And imitate the way I walk
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man

My masquerade comes to an end
And I go home to bed again
Alone and friendless
I close my eyes, I think of him
I fantasise what might have been
My dreams are endless
We love each other but it seems
The love is only in my dreams
It's so one sided
But in this life I must confess
The search for love and hapiness
Is unrequited
I ask myself what I have got
Of what I am and what I'm not
What have I given
The answers come from those who make
The rules that some of us must break
Just to keep living
I know my life is not a crime
I'm just a victim of my time
I stand defenceless
Nobody has the right to be
The judge of what is right for me
Tell me if you can
What make a man a man

Tell me if you can
Tell me if you can
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man

I really don't have any information on the group, but I just happened to bump into lyrics where 4 men, called Bearforce 1, sing about boys.. Gay song. Definitely.

P/s: Update - It's a mix of several old hits. Gay enough. :)

I love a classic. I love a classic loved by disco gays. And I love a classic remade by a gay group, to make it even more gay. This gay song, I Love The Nightlife, was released together with Hit The Perfect Beat in 1995 by Bronski Beat. Originally, this was a No.5 hit in the USA for Alicia Bridges. Perhaps you can recall Michael, Emmett and Ted crooning this song in the first ever episode of Queer As Folk before a gorgeous hunk walked by.

Ooooh I, I love the nightlife
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea

Please don't talk about love tonight
Please don't talk about sweet love
Please don't talk about being true
And all the trouble we've been through
Ah, please don't talk about all of the plans
We had for fixin' this broken romance
I want to go where the people dance
I want some action
I want to live
Action, I got so much to give
I want to give it
I want to get some too

Ooooh I, I love the nightlife
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea

Please don't talk about love tonight
Your sweet talking won't make it right
Love and lies just bring me down
When you've got women all over town
You can love them all and when you're through
Maybe that'll make, huh, a man out of you
I got to go where the people dance
I want some action
I want to live

Action
I got so much to give
I want to give it
I want to get some too

Oh I, I love the nightlife
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea

Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea
Oh, I love the night life
I got to boogie
On the disco 'round, oh yea

Another Bronski Beat's gay song about closeted love. This is taken from their album Truthdare Doubledare (1986).

I've been working
On the line
To earn my pay
To get away
From all the pressure
In this town
When I walk around
It brings me down

I leave it up
Up to you
What you want
Want me to do
Keep hearing rumours
About our love
I can't go on
I've had enough

This heart, heart of mine
It just keeps me rolling on
You small town boy, you've got everything to fight for
That old hard rain has fallen once before
This heart, heart of mine
It just keeps me from going under
You smalltime boys, you've got everything to fight for
Pick up that bag and walk right out that door

Is there relief
This pain inside
Can't get it out
Out of my mind
What have I done?
Deserving this?
Where is the fun
When you love someone?

Another Bronski Beat's gay song - a song about a gay guy's fear. This track is from Age of Consent (1984), Bronski Beat's first album, which has been called as one of the gayest albums.

My man love my first love
My closetness and pain
My lying my deceiving
My rivers keep on crying

My father my action man
My hiding in the crowd
My mother my sisters eyes
My seniors and their prying

My freedom my prison cell
My tempting to destroy
My fantasies my lost control
My confusion disillusion

My hero my schoolboy
My physical abuse
My loneliness my aching brain
My pounding in the head

Machismo my manhood
My wanting just to scream
Scream yeah yeah heah

Don't we all? This gay track is taken from an openly gay album, The Age of Consent(1984), by the group Bronski Beat, which was led by the openly gay artist, Jimmy Somerville. Need-A-Man Blues was written by Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder. The latter should be remembered for his wonderful work - Flashdance.. What A Feeling, Together in Electric Dream, Call Me etc.

Yeah, I am feeling this too..

Need a man blues
He-e-hey!

I got those need a man blues
Driving me mad
I go those need a man blues
Hurting me bad

Sweet sweet sweet
Is the taste of a man
And sweeter still is the taste
Of his sweet tasting love

Evil, wicked or angel
Just give me a man
Evil, wicked or
Angel

Need a man blues
Need a man blues
Angel hurting me bad
Boys and heroes lovers and men

Turning me upside down
Again and again
Again and again

He-e-hey

I got those need a man blues
I got those need a man blues
Hurting me oh so bad

And the sweetest thing of all
Is men loving men loving men loving men
Is men loving men loving men loving men
I got those need a man blues
I got those need a man blues

Ne-he-he-he-he-he-he-ed a man blues
Ne-he-he-he-he-he-he-ed a man blues
Ne-he-he-he-he-he-he-ed a man blues
Ne-he-he-he-he-he-he-ed a man blues

Angel!

I don't have much information on this gay MTV or gay song, other than it was directed by Miroslav Mirčev. There's supposed to be a connection to global warming.

A man singing about longing for another lost man... Hmmm.. beautiful and shameless. :) This gay song, Jackie, is by the famous group, where one is gay, one is bisexual and the other is straight.

Jackie left on a cold, dark night
telling me he'd be home,
he sailed the sea for a hundred years
and left me all alone.

Now I've been dead for twenty years
I've been washing the sand
with my ghostly tears
searching the shores for my
Jackie oooh.

And I remember the day
that the young man came
said your Jackie's gone
he's lost in the rain
and I ran to the beach
(laid me down)

You're all wrong, I said
as they stared to the sand,
that man knows the seas
like the back of his hand,
he'll be back sometime
Laughing at you.

I've been waiting all this time,
for my man to come
take his hand in mine
and lead me away to unseen shores.

I've been washing the sand
with my salty tears
searching the shores these long years
and I walked the sea forevermore
till I find my Jackie oooh,

Jackie oooh,
Jackie oooh,
Jackie ooo-oo-ooh.

Funny video. I love it.

I don't have much info on it, and I think this gay parody is great, and there should be a full version of this gay song.. : )

I think this gay song is so trying to be Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy. I have not warmed up to this gay song yet. But perhaps you can check it out.. The MV is in youtube. It's kind a stereotyping gays.

I am gay
I like men
I lift weights
I can dance my place
My place is neat
I keep it clean
I floss everyday
I am gay

I work hard
Play even harder
I'm into fashion
Men are my passion

Even when its cold outside
I'll take of my shirt
Lets go for a ride
I'll make you work
I saw you looking at me
I knew then and there you were coming home with me
I'll wash your back and rub your neck
I'll cook you food
and then I'll suck your d**k

Even when its cold outside
I'll take off my shirt
Lets go for a ride
I'll make you work
Even when its cold outside il take off my shirt
Lets go for a ride
I'll make you work, I'll make you work boy, I'll make you work

I am gay
I like men
I lift weights
I can dance
My place is neat
And i keep it clean
I floss everyday
I am gay

I work hard
I play even harder
and I'm into fashion
Men are my passion
I saw you staring at me
I knew then and there you were coming home with me
I'll wash your back
And rub your neck
I'll cook you food
then I'll suck your d**k

Even when its cold outside I'll take of my shirt
lets go for a ride I'll make you work
even wen its cold outside I'll take off my shirt
lets go for a ride I'll make you work boy I'll make you sweat
I'll make you work

Oooh.. I made a mistake.. I thought this funny song, My Whole Family Thinks I'm Gay by Bo Burnham is a gay-bashing song... Turned out that it is cute song.. funny. Really.

Every time I go to dinner
Seems like I'm getting a little bit thinner.
I'll sit down at the breakfast table.
I can talk, well they're not able.
When I look at them I find.
There's a single question on their mind.

I wish it could go back to the way it was
It's not easy now because...

My whole family thinks I'm gay,
I guess it's always been that way.
Maybe it's 'cause of the way that I walk
Makes them think I like... boys.

That I like boys.

The goddamn just won't go away.
And I get asked every single day.
But the way they ask it is not a disguise,
Like, "How was your day? Do you like to kiss guys?"

This is the worst,
Baby this was my fear.
Now their opinions are crystal clear.
Because...

My whole family now is shocked.
I'm in the closet, and the door is locked.
Now my glory days are gone
I was John Elway, now I'm Elton John.

My whole now suspects
Watching Spongebob had side-effects.
I'm not gay and that's what I said
If I'm gay hey, God, strike me dead.

That's weird.

Just 'cause I'm on the cheerleading team
Or my birthday party had a Broadway theme.

When I go outside, what do I see?
That the clouds in the sky spell F-A-G.
Because...

I think that God might think I'm gay.
What does He know anyway?
My grandma gave me a present just last year,
And the card said, "Happy Birthday, Queer!"

My whole family thinks I'm fab.
There's a guy's butt hey, Bo, take a stab.
Why doesn't he get women?
There's no other way.
It's 'cause I'm lanky, not 'cause I'm gay, alright?

Not 'cause I'm gay.

Just 'cause I'm afraid of the snow.
Or my favorite color is the rain(Bo)w.
I don't mean to yell, but I feel I must.
'Cause I'm losing the people that I thought I could trust.
Because...

Even my boyfriend thinks I'm gay... Just kidding.

You all probably think I'm gay...
Man this song is counter-productive.
La la la la la la...

Because...
My whole family thinks I'm gay.
What do they know anyway?
You gotta look right through the haze.
Easy-Bake Oven was just a phase.

My whole family thinks I'm queer.
That is all I ever hear.
But I've been as straight as a ramp,
If you don't count Bible camp.

Bible camp.

I'm not gay I swear.

Look at the name of the boy band. Hehehe.. And singing Donna Summer's famous trademark song? This is so gay... I did a research, and the boys are gay. And if you watch the video closely, you can see homoerotic moves between guys. Briefly. Still... better a second than none.

A modest effort - a short gay themed film that talks about a young guy who is obsessed with guys and girls, and cannot seem to keep his eyes away from any that passes by him. Faithfulness is not the young guy's key character.

Okay. Look. I am shallow. I love a gay themed film with beautiful male lead. And I love a gay themed film with beautiful story. Like Latter Days. Like Trick. Like Get Real.

And then, I met Torch Song Trilogy.

There's this Arnold (Harvey Fierstein), an effeminate gay who works as woman impersonator. By my shallow standard, I would not have liked this movie. I fell in love with the movie, the moment the brilliant monologues by Arnold played at the beginning. They were witty. They were catchy. And Harvey was superb.

Arnold met bisexual Ed (Brian Kerwin). They started a hopeless affair, as Ed did not have the courage to confront his sexual orientation. For this, Arnold suffered, and even more, when Arnold caught Ed with another woman.

Then, Arnold met young Alan (Matthew Broderick). Arnold rejected the idea of a relationship at the beginning, but Alan persisted. A beautiful relationship blossomed. However, things were not meant to be for Arnold, when in the midst of trying to set up a family of their own, Alan met a tragedic death, leaving Arnold with their new adopted gay son.

Arnold coped to the best possible, until his mom showed up, forcing Arnold to confront his situation with his mom, Ed and his gay adopted son.

After watching this show, I want to adopt a Jewish family. This movie is a gem.

Torch Song Trilogy won Deauville Film Festival 1989 Audience Award.

In 2006, Kotaro Terauchi directed a commercially successful gay themed dvd film - Boys Love. So popular, that Korato came up with a theater version of Boys Love, with an entirely different story.

Boys Love 2, the gay themed film, was released in 2007, with Yoshikazu Kotani returned as the male lead again. This time, he is a teacher, Aoi. Who has sex with a male prostitute Sora (Atsumi Kanno) when Aoi was dumped by his girlfriend. And Sora turns out to be Aoi's new student. So, drama begins. And with even more drama, when Sora's roommate, Mizuki (Yuki Kawakubo), carries the torch for Sora. But Mizuki is constantly bullied by the school closet, Hanazono (Kazunori Tani).

Halfway watching this movie, I just had to laugh. I thought I was a drama queen at times, but the characters in this movie make me speechless. Aoi gets nervous when he realises that students are not allowed to have phones in school. Saro has a phone, and in his phone - Aoi's number. And Aoi distances himself from Saro because Saro never surrenders the phone to Aoi.

I don't get it with Atsumi Kanno's hair. I find it funny when a guy looks less than ordinary and yet he is being constantly praised as the most popular and looking all that cool.. when in the show, he looked horrible - like an escaped male ghost from Ju-On.

Who I think is hot? The teacher - Yoshikazu Kotani. Or Yuki Kawakubo. Or pan-pacific looking Kazunori Tani. Anyone but Atsumi Kanno. So, I don't get it with this movie poor casting.

And when Mizuki was shunned out, there's hardly any compassion from Saro. I don't get it. I secretly wish the teacher would end up with Mizuki, or even Hanazono.

Watch it, for the love of all the Bishonens (beautiful boys) of Japan in this movie. Ignore Astumi's bad hair.

Sweet.

I don't know the reaction of the gay community on this gay ad - but I was offended by Motorola. Judge it for yourself.

I cannot find enough information on this, but it is well-made gay short documentary to educate the non-gay communities about gays and lesbians.

Gay Bar was a Top 10 hit in the UK, in the year 2003. I personally did not dig this song, but hey, at least it got some attention. This hit was the second release from Electric Six's album Fire.

You!
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.

Let's start a war, start a nuclear war,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Wow! (Shout out loud)
At the gay bar.

Now tell me do ya, a do ya have any money?
I wanna spend all your money,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.

I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Wow! (Shout out loud)

You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
Yeah! you're a superstar, at the gay bar.
You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
Superstar.
Super, super, superstar.

Japan has been generous with Asian gay themed films to feed those who wish to have Asian flavour at times in indulging gay love. We have great films, like Gohatto, Like A Grain of Sand, Hush!, Alumni Reunion etc.

Sukitomo is another Japanese offering on male-to-male love, although in this film, the love is silenced. None of the male leads talked of their feelings. Yoshiko (Hiroki Aiba) carried a torch for the boxer friend, Tomokazu (Takumi Saito), who felt the same in return, although none of them tried to act on it. Misao (Komatsu Airi) remained the only one who could ruin any hope of Tomokazu to be with Yoshiko, although at the end, she was the one who reunited them. Misao was in love with Tomokazu, her stepfather's adopted son, and hence, initially tried to separate the two guys.

Not an outstanding film, but at least it did not carry the typical manga-style comical performance. Still, an okay film to enjoy.

From the land that brought us marvelous Beautiful Thing, Get Real, Queer As Folk (UK), Metrosexuality and Gimme Gimme Gimme, here comes another great gay themed tv series - Beautiful People. When I watched the first episode, I was overjoyed to know that it was written by Jonathan Harvey, who wrote us the wonderful Beautiful Thing (1996).

The tv series focuses on gay Simon Doonan in his years of growing up in a dysfunctional family. Here, we have the adult Simon (cute Samuel Barnett) relating to his younger years, played out by a young Simon (Luke Ward-Wilkinson). He was surrounded by a slutty sister, alcoholic mom, blind aunt and a father suspected of two-timing his mother. His best friend hung out with him often, to rate the clothes of the people on the street.

This gay tv series is witty and funny. Wonderfully written, and I cannot wait for another week to catch a new episode. This is definitely one of the best gay product of 2008. Even in the general ranking, it is one of the best tv products of 2008.

Bodey McDodey is a new student at West Beach, and he is a homophobe. So, ultimately, he challenges the beloved incumbent Student President, Sissy Frenchfry, for the upcoming election. This gay short film won the following awards -

Part 3

In 1999, the group Allister released the album Dead Ends & Girlfriends, where there was this gay song Jacob, or known on the net as Jacob Thinks I'm Gay.

Jacob sits outside the door
and runs into the class when I sit down
He takes a seat right next to me
I never thought about it until now

And even if a boy likes me
it's not the end of the world
He may be a really nice guy
but I only like girls
On the computer I got a letter
Jacob says he wants to know me better
A little flattering but way too strange
that Jacob thinks I'm gay

Jacob walks right up to me
before I get a foot out of the door
he takes a second look at me
I guess he wanted just a little more

And even if a boy likes me
it's not the end of the world
He may be a really nice guy
but I only like girls
On the computer I got a letter
Jacob says he wants to know me better
A little flattering but way too strange
that Jacob thinks I'm gay

Na Na Na Na Na...

And even if a boy likes me
it's not the end of the world
He may be a really nice guy
but I only like girls
On the computer I got a letter
Jacob says he wants to know me better
A little flattering but way too strange
that Jacob thinks I'm gay

In 1986, Kenny Loggins had a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song from the Top Gun soundtrack, called Playing With The Boys. It might seem innocent, but when it comes from a movie that is quoted to have gay innuendos, and Tom Cruise was the lead star, this song became a suspect. Does it really mean the way the lyrics was written? And this is no Elton John. It's by Kenny Loggins. Hmmm.. Talk about Truth or Dare... So, is Playing with the Boys a gay song or not?

I'd say it was the right time
To walk away
When dreaming takes you nowhere
It's time to play
Bodies working overtime
Your money don't matter
Time keeps ticking
Someone's on my mind (on my mind)

I'm moving in slow motion
Feels so good
It's a strange anticipation
Knock, knock, knocking on wood
Bodies working overtime
It's Man against man
All that ever matters
Is baby who's ahead in the game
Funny but it's always the same

Playing, playing with the boys
Staying, playing with the boys
After chasing sunsets
One of life's simple joys
Is playing with the boys

She said it was the wrong thing
For me to do
I said it's just a boys' game
That Girls play too
My heart is working overtime
In this kind of game
People get hurt
I'm thinkin that the people is me
If you want to find me, I'll be

Playing, playing with the boys
Staying, playing with the boys
After chasing sunsets
One of life's simple joys
...is the boys

I don't want to be the moth around your fire
...with the boys
I don't want to be obsessed by my desire
Your shining, Your smiling
I've seen enough
...with the boys
I'm staying here
You play too rough

Playing, playing with the boys
I'll be staying, playing with the boys
After chasing sunsets
One of life's simple joys
Is playing with the boys
Playing with the boys
Playing
Playing
Playing
Playing

This song peaked at No. 60.

I watched this film several years ago, and did not pay much attention to it, as I thought the film was concentrating too much on the female actress, and Leslie Jordan as a cross-dresser??? Nah... Not my interest.

But I did note Kirk Geiger (Ty) as the gay son. And I always have a soft spot for Olivia Newton-John. So, since that Logoonline is airing the tv series, and AfterElton's members had voted this movie as one of the Top 50 gay films (if I am not mistaken), I thought it was time to watch it again. This time, to pay as much attention as possible.

Sordid Lives is a gay film about dealing with one's sexuality. Brother Boy (Leslie Jordan) institutionalized for more than 20 years, because he likes boys. This makes it difficult for his nephew, Ty, to come out. So, when Ty's grandma passes away, it is a difficult decision for Ty to come back to his hometown.

There are a number of fun and funny characters throughout this movie, and I am glad that I sat through to watch this movie for the second time. You know what? I am having a different opinion of Leslie Jordan this time. Without him, I think this movie is less fun.

And Kirk Geiger is simply gorgeous. Attention! Butt-view available... Hehehe... Yum.

And now, I can watch Sordid Lives, the tv series, without feeling lost of who is who, and why this and that. : )

Awards:
Sordid Lives won Best Feature awards in Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival 2000, Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 2000 and New York International Independent Film & Video Festival (2000 Summer). Leslie Jordan won Best Actor award in New York International Independent Film & Video Festival (2000 Summer). The Soundtrack was awarded (Audience Award) Outstanding Soundtrack by L.A. Outfest (2000).

When I first read the first few chapters of the gay novel Boston Boys Club, I could not help but to link the characters to the QAF characters - Brian, Michael and Emmett. But as the pages turn further, Tommy, Rico and Kyle were established in their own foundation, and less linked to my obsession of QAF.

Tommy believes in the one-and-only. Unfortunately, he is not that lucky in the love department, and 30 is catching up. So, he hangs out at Club Cafe every Thursday night, because Thursday night is the busiest night, where there are more gays than other nights. There, he meets Mikey, who seems to be perfect in every way... until Mikey drinks at Club Cafe. There's when Tommy's tested on how much he is willing to bear with Mikey's alternate personality.

Rico is Tommy's best friend. A muscle stud who is very much like Samantha of Sex & the City, where sex is mightier than love. Rico does not like Mikey. And neither does he like the idea of guys hanging around after sex. Until a certain captain parks his boat in Boston...

Kyle wants to have attention all the time. But he is already a fading star, since his days in a reality tv show, where he was caught naked in the bathtub sandwiched between his boyfriend and a pick-up guy. Kyle needs a miracle, and desperately seeks to be a star again, until his blood test result comes out positive.

Boston Boys Club by Johnny Diaz is a light-reading book material. Enjoyable.

You know what I like about this gay novel? The flashback to the 80's themes - TVs, Movies, Music. Facts of Life, The Cover-up, Dynasty. Holding Out For A Hero, That's What Friends Are For, Friends And Lovers. You know what I prefer not to like about this gay book? Andrea, Betsy and thousand other girls' names, when I was eager for more connection between Jack, Brad and Joey.

This gay themed book is about Jack, growing up, denying that he is like that. So, in 3/4 denial, he tries to date girls, and one after another, the girls end the relationship with him. And it is not making it easy for him to be labeled as a Band Fag, along with his best friend, Brad. And while Jack is good at scoring A's, he is nowhere as popular as Brad.

When his younger-years best friend, Joey, returns to the neighborhood and is all good-looking and all that, Jack has to confront his feeling for guys. And when Jack eventually asks Joey what if he kisses him, Joey says he will return the kiss.. which makes Jack chickens out.. until Truth-or-Dare's Dare leads to the Joey Kiss.

Somewhere along the line, Jack experiments with Brad, but the denial and frustration shake their best-buddies relationship.

I enjoy Band Fag! by Frank Anthony Polito. But really, what's with the thousand girls?

A young handsome gay man walks through night lives of people on the street and in a club. This is a black and white gay short film.

I thought I should have included this. : ) This is where JD and Turk sing about guy love.

[J.D.]
Let's face the facts about me and you,
A love unspecified.
Though I'm proud to call you "Chocolate Bear,"
The crowd will always talk and stare.

[Turk]
I feel exactly those feelings, too
And that's why I keep them inside.
'Cause this bear can't bear the world's disdain,
And sometimes it's easier to hide,
Than explain our

[J.D. and Turk]
Guy love,
That's all it is,
Guy love,
He's mine, I'm his,
There's nothing gay about it in our eyes.

[Turk]
You ask me 'bout this thing we share,

[J.D.]
And he tenderly replies,

[Turk]
It's guy love

[J.D. and Turk]
Between two guys.

[Turk]
We're closer than the average man and wife,

[J.D.]
That's why our matching bracelets say Turk and J.D.

[Turk]
You know I'll stick by for the rest of my life.

[J.D.]
You're the only man who's ever been inside of me.

[Turk]
Whoa, I just took out his apendix.

[J.D.]
There's no need to clarify,

[Turk]
Oh no?

[J.D.]
Just let it grow more and more each day.
It's like I married my best friend,

[Turk]
But in a totally manly way.

[J.D. and Turk]
Let's go!
It's guy love,
Don't compromise,
The feeeling of some other guy,
Holding up your heart,
Into the sky.

[J.D.]
I'll be there to care through all the lows.

[Turk]
I'll be there to share the highs.

[J.D. and Turk]
It's guy love,
Between two guys.

[J.D.]
And when I say, "I love you, Turk,"
It's not what it impies.

[J.D. and Turk]
It's guy love
Between
Two
Guys

They are so gay, and they don't even like boys. ;p

Another cute gay ad.

Is it an ad by mychemistry.com or eHarmony? Whichever one it is, I like the idea of this gay ad. : )

I'd like to see my local newspaper does such gay ad.

This is an adorable gay short film, directed by Judd King. Running Without Sound is a gay themed film that focuses on Sean (Shad Sager) who is deaf. When he is bullied by another guy in the locker, Derek (Trace Barnes) steps up to defend Sean.

That starts a beautiful friendship between Sean and Derek.

Part 1

Part 2

Okay. I am one season behind, but I just thought of checking out Greek to find out what the hype is all about this gay boy Calvin Owens (Paul James). I chose this episode, well.. for the episode title sake, and this season is supposed to be the season to break the taboo of Dawson's Creek's Jack, as in gays do have love life.

And you know what. I was impressed. I did not really know Michael's role, but Michael (Max Greenfield), who is Calvin's boyfriend, brings a nervous Calvin to a gay club. It is Calvin's first time, and so, Calvin drags his sister along, who brings along a depressed female friend who needs some cheering up. Where can a depressed girl be cheered up better? None other than gay club, where the guys are hot, and they are always complimenting on the girls on how hot the girls looked.

I love the dialogs. From the straight guys are insensitive to the others... I'm loving this tv series.

Here's a gay song that talks about what Real Men are. This song reached no.15 in the Dutch Singles Chart in 1982. Phew... talk about a long time ago... Sigh... Anyway, it is a good song. : ) Tori Amos made a cover version of this Joe Jackson's song.

Take your mind back - I don't know when
Sometime when it always seemed
To be just us and them
Girls that wore pink
And boys that wore blue
Boys that always grew up better men
Than me and you

Whats a man now - whats a man mean
Is he rough or is he rugged
Is he cultural and clean
Now its all change - its got to change more
cause we think its getting better
But nobody's really sure

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

See the nice boys - dancing in pairs
Golden earring golden tan
Blow-wave in the hair
Sure they're all straight - straight as a line
All the gays are macho
Cant you see their leather shine

You don't want to sound dumb - dont want to offend
So don't call me a faggot
Not unless you are a friend
Then if you're tall and handsome and strong
You can wear the uniform and I could play along

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

Time to get scared - time to change plan
Don't know how to treat a lady
Don't know how to be a man
Time to admit - what you call defeat
cause theres women running past you now
And you just drag your feet

Man makes a gun - man goes to war
Man can kill and man can drink
And man can take a whore
Kill all the blacks - kill all the reds
And if theres war between the sexes
Then there'll be no people left

And so it goes - go round again
But now and then we wonder who the real men are

Bumped into this gay short film, directed by Joel Moser and written by Moser and Sam Mathewes. Story by Mike Clark. Waiting is a simple story about a loving gay couple Michael (Justin Martindale) and John (Sam Mathewes) who want to adopt a baby. They have to convince a pregnant woman why they are suitable parents to raise her child. It runs only for around 9 minutes, but enough to show how longing the gay couple here is to have a child to complete their home.

: )

Beautiful movie.

Ah. The joy of Sailorhood.

I don't normally like a gay themed movie with non-attractive male leads. I know. I am shallow. So, 15 seconds into the movie, and when I saw the male lead of Venkovsky Ucitel, I was not sure if I could sit through the whole movie. But I did. This gay themed film was one of the rare good gay films out there. The teacher escaped his life by coming to the country side. And when he was asked why did he come, I was interested.

So, what is this movie about?

It's about this male teacher, Petr (Pavel Liska). With this new female friend, Marie (Zuzana Bydzovska). Who is interested in him.
But he is interested in this one, Lada (Ladislav Sedivy). Who is her teen son.

Who is interested in this girl.

Who has a fling with the teacher's ex who drops by to check on the teacher.
One thing led to another, and the son ran away to look for his ex-girlfriend. He ran away because the teacher betrayed his trust, when the teacher did a bad bad thing at night when he passed out. And the teacher needed the boy to forgive him badly, but the boy would not. Only the boy's mother did.

I still think the movie is well-made.

This is what I have to admire of Singapore - its willingness to explore the art of movie-making, and taking one further step to make a taboo topic - gay movie.

With the help of the Auteur Sylvia Chang acting as Jen, this movie explored the life of a Singapore woman, who raised her 3 sons with her earnings from her Hainan chicken rice business. The situation is made a little more complex with her two eldest being gay and were already dating men, with reluctant blessings from her. Her only 'hope' to see grandchildren now lied with Leo, her youngest son. With the help of Kim Chui, a neighbour who was interested in her, Jen wished to know if her son was gay.

Along came Sebine, a French exchange girl, whom Jen hoped would convince Leo of the beauty of the hetero world.

But Leo's world was shooked up when his best friend, Batman, left Singapore. As Jen witnessed the tears of Leo shed, Jen knew her wish for her own self-defined perfect world was never meant to be.

I did not think that the movie did justice to Sylvia's talent, but I did believe that her skill did help to save the movie. It was funny to see a Taiwanese actress trying to capture the way of a typical Singaporean woman style of talking.

Alvin Chiang & LePham

I thought the movie should focus on the eldest son too - Daniel (Alvin Chiang). Daniel is a air steward. Who is young and good-looking. Who chooses to settle down with an older guy. Way older guy. Like a daddy-type. What the heck?! Where's the glamour world of a gay air steward? The movie did not pay enough attention on his problem. Only merely at the end where he chooses to get registered with his darling in France Taiwan (thanks, Anon).

Alan Wu & Craig Toh

Harry (Craig Toh), the second son, was portrayed as the typical gay comic relief. Slightly sissy and a BIG drama princess. Who could not stay long in gay relationships. Not of his own doings, but because relationships just happened not to last in his gay world. But I did think it was funny how he would always get gifts for his mom - gifts that were from the line of work of his boyfriend of the moment. Shampoo, and then cookie, and then lastly toothpaste. It was the toothpaste boyfriend that allowed a glimpse of happiness for Harry - it did shine and sparkle. And watch carefully Harry's toothpaste boyfriend - he's none other than the sporting hunk Alan Wu.

LePham & Andy

Leo (LePham Tan)was the teenage son that everyone wanted to watch over - to see what he would be. I was disappointed that the film did not try to explore his relationship with Batman sexually, but instead chickened out and concentrated on the weird, and unnecessary, Sebine. She was a laugh, not in a good way. Leo did explore his sexual side with her, but with Batman, we were expected to accept that Leo was indeed a confused gay boy, just because he cried when Batman left.

Where's Superman when we need one?

But this movie is still a must-watch, to see the attempt made in a country where gay is a taboo practice. Admirable. And light.

The first ever openly gay song? Apparently, according to Wikipedia, Do You Come Here Often by The Tornadoes in 1966 was. I had hunted everywhere for the dialogs shared in the song to have an idea what they were talking about, but unfortunately I failed. Anyone cares to share?

Well, this is a good find, although I am not able to locate the lyrics anywhere on the net. Ron Morris sang about his Boyfriend's back - taken from his album Boyfriend and Other Sides of Love. I was seriously believing that it was a cover version of the famous My Boyfriend's Back, but it is not. I still like it though.

In his album Another Side (2007), John Barrowman of the Torchwood fame covered several old hits and one of them was the classic You're So Vain, made famous by Carly Simon. I was so thrilled to find that he did not change the lyrics.

The song was accusing the guy who neglected the singer, abandoning something that could be beautiful between them... The first part was revealing the accused to be a man, so vain.

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed
That they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave

But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams
They were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you? Don't you?

I had some dreams
They were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun

Well, you're where you should be all of the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy
Or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
