Baby Shark is written and directed by Pascal-Alex Vincent. This short film has three short stories. Running for only 15 minutes, the theme of this controversial short film is teens. The first story is about a skateboarder who visits his friends, and begins to be upset when he he is criticised. So, he whacks both friends with his skateboard. The second story deals with a boy who is obsessed with another straight boy. The obsessed awaits the latter outside of the classroom. The third story is about one twin is upset when the other twin gets a girl.

So, what's the deal with the gay theme? The first story shows how the cute skateboarder just asks his male friend, who looks high on drugs, for a BJ, and he gets a brief one, in front of the other equivalent high-on-drug-looking girl. The second one is obvious.

The twins should get attention as both are so cute. It looks like one twin is hooked on the other.

This short film was nominated for Best Short Film in Cannes Film Festival 2005.

Madonna in a gay themed film, as Madonna? Well, not exactly. But there were a few seconds of a blond woman, dressed up in a cone-sharped golden bra. Cheonhajangsa Madonna is about Oh Dong-ku (Deok-Hwan Ryu), a Korean boy who wants to go through surgery, to become a girl. He tries to save up money, but ends up using the money to bail out his useless drunken father. When Dong-Ku finds out that there is a 5 million won to be won if he becomes No.1 in ssireum, Dong-Ku takes up this Korean style of wrestling. Accompanied by hilarious wrestling teammates, this gay themed film delivers the story of a boy's challenges to earn the money, falling in love with his school teacher and also the confrontation with the devilish father, and runaway mother.

This film resembles another gay themed film offering from Thailand, Beautiful Boxer (2003), also on a male wanting to earn money to go through sex operation to become a female. However, Cheonhajangsa Madonna is lighter. This gay themed film is one of the best gay offerings from South Korea. The wrestling team is not as nasty as their appearance. They are comical, and they are funny, convincingly. Even the teenage crush on the school teacher is cute. The only reservation I had was the brutal face off with the father, which I thought could have been toned down.

Deok-Hwan Ryu won himself the Best Actor award in Grand Bell Awards, South Korea 2007. The movie was also nominated for Best Screenplay.

This song was the B-side to Pet Shop Boys' Yesterday, When I Was Mad, released in 1994. This song skipped my attention, until I realised that it was referring to a Euroboy who wants the love of the singer of this song - a male singer.

Solos (2007) is a gay themed film, which focuses on three characters. A teacher (Lim Yu Beng) is in a relationship with his male student (Loo Zihan, co-director). While the teacher is committed to developing a proper relationship with the boy, including meeting the boy's mom (Goh Guat Kian), the boy is less faithful, and has an outside affair. The movie also deal with the mom's confrontation of her emotion, arises from the affairs around her.

Directed by Zihan Loo and Kan Lume, this gay themed film plays out its plots on a different platform of story-telling. Mostly silent, with background music occasionally, the film lets the quietness of the film to deliver the haunting messages of feelings the characters go through. The film alternates between the heavier drama portrayal (the mom) with the sexual intensity (the boy and the affair). I have been waiting to watch this film for quite some time, and I have to conclude that I was not disappointed. It was remarkable to see how Singapore has tried to challenge the boundaries of rules and regulation, and produces an admirable work. Yeah, this movie was banned, but perhaps with the ban, the film gained greater popularity too. This movie is not shy of the beauty of the male bodies. And in this case, Singapore male bodies.

Yummy. Truly yummy.

John Eames is separating from his lover, Harrison. Since gym workouts has built John to be a hunk, John feels like his life is taking a different direction. He is getting attention. Men now want him for sex. And yet, his sex life with Harrison has gone downhill. So, when Harrison books for them a historical tour, John makes up his mind to go on his own vacation - a gay cruise, to escape from the chain of his boring lifestyle and his boring boyfriend. But even before the gay cruise starts, John has already found himself in the arms and bed of a young Brian, who is going through the same phase as him - being HIV positive.

I don't enjoy gay books on AIDS. They are depressing. When I bought this book by Orland Outland, I had no idea that it was on a main character with AIDS problem. But I enjoy this book. Orland had managed to paint a nice picture of people living with HIV positive - that life does not have to end when one is HIV positive. Orland avoids the depressing dramatic tones when it comes to the exploration of John's life... passion, love and sex.

This book is not great. But I enjoyed it. It is quite alright.

Nice way to tell the people not to drive when they are high. Cool gay ad.

Another gay short film made by students of a local university in Malaysia. The first one was Comolot, which was shared in a previous posting. Here is another attempt, which is pretty poetry, but unfortunately it comes without any English subtitle.

It's about two guys who expressed their feelings for one another, and when the next step was taken, one of the guys got confused and rejected the other guy. Drama. The gay community would have been so proud. Hahaha.. Anyway, the acting was B-grade, but the cinematography was worthy of mention. The effort was admirable.

Part 2

No Regret is a gay themed drama film revolving the issue of Romeo-and-Juliet of the gay world. Su-Min (Young-hoon Lee) is an orphan who comes to Seoul to live in his adulthood life. He works at a factory, and drives for a part-time job. He meets Jae-Min (Nam-gil Kim) who takes a fancy on him. However, nothing materialises. However, Su-Min meets Jae-Min again at his factory, where Jae-Min is responsible to lay off workers. Su-Min is involved, and in anger, leaves the factory. Without much option, Su-Min becomes a dish-washer, before making it big as a male prostitute. Jae-Min manages to track down Su-Min, and in his several attempts, wins over Su-Min. However, Jae-Min's parents step in, leaving Jae-Min and Su-Min to question their relationship.

I have seen a few Korean gay themed film, and I have to say that this is one of my top favourite. Young-hoon and Nam-gil are just a perfect match for one another that their chemistry carries well this film. It is impressive to see a film that dwells not only the closeted relationship between the two leads, but to bring in other issues that affect Su-Min, the secret hidden from his orphanage brother, his young secret admirer's death etc.

It is a movie worthy of watching.

Bimbo Boy, who is well-known for his Drama Queen track, has released a new song called Boy Loves Boy. You can download it here. How I wish I can find the lyrics to this gay song Boy Loves Boy.

Goran (Gustaf Skarsgard) and Sven (Torkel Petersson) had always wanted a child of their own. The only way possible for them was to adopt. So, they signed up, wishing and wanting a child of their own... The good news came, and they were prepared for a baby boy named Patrik. Aged 1.5 years old. The baby room was already decorated in baby blue, to fit the welcome. And then, Patrik (Thomas Ljungman), aged 15 years old, showed up. There was a mix-up. But it was not as bad as when homophobic Patrik found out that Goran and Sven were gays.

It was a nice time to spend, to watch a pleasant well-made movie. Patrik's presence was unwelcomed, but Goran was more patient to deal with the situation, while the tougher Sven was hostile. It put a pressure on their relationship. The matter became worse when Sven left, leaving Goran to face the adoption of Patrik on his own. Just when Goran became warmer to Patrik, the Adoption Agency informed Goran that he had to reapply, as the earlier approval was for the gay couple, and not for a single gay Goran. Without any solution, Patrik would have to be sent back to the institution.

Nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in Guldbagge Awards (2009).
